Leon Stanger BSc. CEng. MICE. FGS. Dip. Geot Eng.
Leon became a Chartered Civil Engineer in 1983, following graduation in 1978. He now has over 40 years of experience in civil engineering, geoenvironmental and construction practices and contracts. Also, major geotechnical and environmental investigations, assessment, and treatment of contaminated land, specialising in the remediation of residual chemicals. As Managing Director of Obsidian Environmental, he is responsible for the geotechnical, environmental, and waste development of the consultancy and for Beech Group. He trained initially as a civil engineer and has experience of acting as the Engineer on major civil engineering projects – including tunnelling and highway schemes, construction of breakwaters, beach management and formally had particular knowledge of coastal and flood defence engineering, including dredging and reclamation projects, with both consultancy and contractual experience. Working as a consultant direct to Network Rail in the 1990`s, and more recently Network Rail Leon has managed teams investigating and designing remedial measures for masonry tunnels over mine workings and failed railway embankments. Recently he has worked for Network rail completing noise and vibration assessments for a second line between Wrexham and Chester.
Over the last thirty years, Leon has specialised in the investigation, assessment and remediation of contaminated sites and has significant experience in remediation technologies. This has included major earthwork projects, one requiring some 2,000,000m3 earthworks contract at a former mineral quarry to allow the construction of 2,000 homes in Norfolk. Establishing the Remediation Strategy and Contract Specification for a major remediation contract at a 50-hectare former industrial/manufacturing site in Bridgwater designated for residential development.
He is the designated HSEQ Director for Beech Group`s ISO 9001, 14001 45001 Integrated Management Systems and oversees its operation, and provides technical assistance to Beech Group`s operational and contractual requirements.
When he is NOT working, he is up a mountain!
